For some clients, the worst part of their experience when making a bankruptcy filing is organizing and gathering their documents. It’s similar to doing your taxes each year. Here is a summary of the main documents needed before I can prepare a petition for you:
- Tax Returns for the past 2 years
- Bank Statements from the past 12 months
- A copy of your bills
- Pay Stubs for the past 6 months
- Car Titles, Real Estate Deeds
Most of these items can be retrieved online. If you need help getting anything in particular, your attorney can help. I generally tell people to plan on spending one entire day devoted to organizing their information. It is part of the price of receiving the very powerful bankruptcy discharge.
