Generally, I do not recommend hiring a company to help “repair your credit report.” Many of these companies operate as scam artists which are a waste of money.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the right to challenge information which you believe is inaccurate. The standard is that if the reporting agency cannot verify information, they must remove it from your report. Learn how to challenge what is on your credit report here: Fixing Your Credit Report.
If you have achieved a discharge in bankruptcy, I recommend contacting the reporting agencies to have it noted on your report. Doing so helps prove past debts are no longer enforceable against you. In addition, it shows future lenders that they will be first in line to be paid back. For this reason, bankruptcy can be a useful tool in rebuilding your credit.
I am eager to help those of you living in Western North Carolina sort through these issues. Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions.
