Judge George Hodges, though still presently serving the Asheville Bankruptcy Court, announced his retirement earlier this year. Judge Laura Beyer began work for the Western District of North Carolina last Tuesday to begin her 14 year term.

The Bankruptcy Court is a court of equity, meaning the bench is supposed to weigh all the factors in a case, and do what is fair under the circumstances. Because of this fairness concept, it is critical to have an impartial and passionate Judge presiding. I am pleased our court did so well with this appointment.
